As a young girl, Smith was taught by her mother how to make duffle parkas that they would carefully hand embroider with original designs. Inspiration from the sixteen members of her family led to her business name 16 Souls. Through her work, Smith maintains a strong connection to her roots and culture. Smith enjoys beading and often
